Demystifying the legislative process

Ever wonder what really happens in the state capitol? How bills get introduced? Why do some get attention while others never see the light of day?  How they move through the process with stops and detours along the way?  And what the heck is an omnibus bill anyway? Hear from two capitol veterans—one representing Minnesota’s cities and the other Minnesota’s counties—on what we need to know about tracking bills and having influence at the legislature.

Presenters:

Brian Martinson, Association of MN Counties

Craig Johnson, League of MN Cities

Beyond the cart recycling: plastic film

Plastic films and bags are not going away. We can reduce as much as possible, but what can we do with the inevitable plastic film to keep it from the landfill?  During this session we will discuss innovations begin conducted statewide to help keep film out of the landfill or not disposed of properly and how it can be given new life. JoAnne Berkenkamp with MBOLD will share about a new facility coming online for recycling plastic film in MN, and Renee Burman with Dakota County will share more information about the successes and challenges with recycling agriculture and marine plastic film.
